The holey thing hangs completed!

The red lace shawl was knitted by Gauri who knits lace so fast, her fingers make a buzzing sound. She posted a progress pic in the post about 'holey things'.  I'm almost 100% sure she used the Rock Island pattern by Jared Flood. She used a silk wool lace blend that I had hand dyed. In case you're wondering, yes, this yarn went to the US & then came back to the UK as a shawl. Some yarns have all the luck.
I might be seen wearing this to weddings, parties & such paired with a smug look on my face.

o bla dee o bla daa

I've been pondering the importance of repetition in our lives. Of patterns, rhythms, multiplications. Once you start noticing them, they magically propel themselves out of the woodwork everywhere around you. The sound of waves, starting crashing, receding, starting, crashing, receding. The motifs on the sofa fabric. Stucco patterns on the wall. Shadows from the wood pergola falling on the ground. Breathe in, breathe out, repeat as needed.

This (rather uncharacteristically) deep mulling is the result of being obsessed with wanting to make a quilt. Specifically, one inspired by Yoshiko Jinzenji, whose book I recently acquired.

(no, that quilt made with over a thousand pieces, will not be attempted by me, I'd like to keep whats left of my sanity, thank you)
It got me thinking about how fundamentally similar the concept of making 2 dimensional fabric is, knitting, weaving, crocheting, its all just the sequential repetition of a code, and it is usually the point where the pattern breaks that the fabric develops a new identity.

Many great things have holes in them

My friend asked me if I ever knit anything without holes in it. Wiseguy. It took enormous willpower not to hurl hole-related insults in his direction.

Aforepicturised holey edging lace strip is for a shawl is made with Manasi's glorious yarn. The color is kinda like a deep fall-maple-tree-esque burgundy.

Discovering local gems (London).

On the District Line, right outside the exit at Turnham Green, is a delightful gardening supplies shop. Wheelers Garden Center carries beautiful plants, pots, garden furniture & ornaments. Bought myself a pretty artisan pot & some heather.

Lace shawl from portland

After months of waiting to block it & weeks of trying to sneak in time for a shoot - here are pictures of the lace shawl that my Portland knitter friend knitted for me.
